I am not a beta but I downloaded it and checked it out. Here are a few notes: (these are the same comments I made on FB - American Pets Alive! post but you requested I copy and paste them on your website).
1) I would like to be able to group a litter of kittens. That way when i weigh and medicate them I can open one file to update it with perhaps a drop down menu for each kitten. Also if I have 2 separate litters it would help keep clear and separate.
2) I have my display text size rather large. This distorts the screens within the app.
3) I would like an archive feature or a way to sort the data for the litters that have been adopted but I want to keep the file open temporarily to provide reminders to adopters for vaccines or otherwise.
4) I set reminders a few times as a test and did not receive notification (probably need to go to my app settings for that)
Thanks for all the feedback... some of what you mentioned can probably be fixed; the rest might have to wait for an upgrade. I appreciate your taking the time to help out!
Hello! Not sure if I should create a separate thread or post it as a comment here but I'll just go ahead and do this for now. I've really enjoyed my experience so far on the Foster Logger app. I think it's a brilliant and innovative idea that will really benefit a lot of fosters, both newer and experienced.
I'm going to go ahead and use dividers to show the pros/cons I've found with the app so far:
Â
PROS:
The app is very functional. I haven't encountered any weird bugs or issues with using any of the features.
Each foster page is pretty organized and self-explanatory so that makes navigation quick and simple.
I like the customization of being able to upload a photo of each foster as well as including their intake/exit dates.
The PDF option is also really cool. I haven't actually tested it completely yet (though I plan to) but I really like the concept, especially when it comes to sharing information with rescues / orgs / veterinarians. I know that in my fostering experience, it would have been nice to have a log of info like that to share with others so I'm excited to take advantage of that feature in the future.
I think that the "pre-food" and "post-food" options under the Weight Log section are great as this can really make a difference and should be considered when monitoring an animal's weight.
Another aspect of navigation, I like that it's easy to switch between different fosters with a few taps. The processes are all very uncomplicated and it's very user-friendly.
Â
CONS:
Like another beta tester mentioned, the username/e-mail thing was a bit confusing for me too. Once I figured it out, I was good to go but that did stand out to me.
My only navigational issue was locating the medicine log. I'm not sure that clumping it in with "General Notes" is the best idea as I feel like it might do better to be front and center. I realize that it would be difficult to add it to the foster page without changing the sizes of the other circles (or having to scroll on the page) but maybe you could combine Urination/Defecation logs to make room for a dedicated Medications section? Just an idea. I personally like to keep that handy as I'm always forgetting the exact dates that I administered dewormers and vaccines, so that would be helpful to have front and center.
I think that in general the "General Notes" could be a bit more streamlined. I like the idea of having a section dedicated to various information about the foster kitten that doesn't fall under specific categories (like medications, urination/defecation, weight, etc.) but I think it would feel a bit better as a user to have each thing listed with its own text box. For example, one box for "Special Needs" and another box for "Personality Traits". This could extend into other things too like "Food Allergies / Sensitivities", "Favorite Toys", "Quirks & Habits", etc. I think that this might be a great way to encourage foster parents to be more interactive with the app aside from just inputting basic information, and that might help them to establish more about each individual foster animal as well.
I wish there was some sort of home page rather than just going back and forth between foster pages. Obviously, at this stage there probably isn't much use for a homepage as the only thing to do on the app is access foster info, but maybe in the future a homepage would allow users to access other things like a Help section or a button that takes them to leave feedback on the app. It could also maybe be similar to how when you open your phone you immediately see if you have any alerts / reminders for the day. Just some ideas!
So far, I've been really pleased with the app. There's definitely a lot of potential here and I'm excited to see where it continues to go! Thank you so much for letting me be a part of the beta testing and I hope that my feedback and ideas are helpful :)
